milo feet aug2914Miles had a great three weeks — his hooves didn’t chip up at all.  The toes on his front hooves got a bit rough but I was able to rasp them easily.  I did not use any hoof treatment on his hind hooves, just Tough Stuff every other day on all four and Venice Turp on his front hooves every other day.

The top photos were taken just before he was trimmed on a three-week cycle. Miles is wearing Defy the Fly Leg Bands, which work well to keep him from getting chipped up by stomping flies.

The bottom photo shows his being trimmed by his fab farrier a few days ago. As you can see, he likes to nuzzle.

The next photo shows the sole of one of Miles’ front hooves.   This is a beautiful sight to me.  His farrier says he has developed some “cuff” which means, miraculously, that the supposedly ‘flat feet’ which were the reason both a previous farrier and a vet said he could not go without shoes are no longer flat — he has been able to develop and maintain a bit of concavity in his front hooves.  Needless to say, this is good!   milo hoof sept2milo shoes sept2
